Evaporating resources

Centrally controlled web resources used for teaching and disseminating research have evaporated and are evaporating. Prior teaching resource software evaporated. There was eCow, eCow2, and many others; as of 2020-2024, it is Canvas. Those who used these resources had to re-do the work they had already done. Then new software was imposed. Work done to incorporate teaching materials by those who accepted this modality had to be re-done, consuming much time that could have been used productively. Then that software evaporated. The time and effort that goes for that is taken away from teaching and research.
Resources within CAE (computer aided engineering) evaporated July 2021 as a result of management. The central mywebspace resource within DoIt central information technology has evaporated. As of 2023, wired network access via one's own computer has evaporated.
By contrast, the Silver web server that has been maintained within the department of Engineering Physics has been active for more than 26 years. Those who set up web space off campus also have been insulated from evaporation by central control.
Physical resources that nourished academic work by students and faculty have evaporated too.
